A lot of people have asked me if the nursery is ready for the arrival of the bun. They’ve also asked me if I’m smuggling a basketball under my shirt, but that’s another story. Are we ready? Umm… sure! I mean, aside from not having any diapers yet… and those tend to be rather important. I thought I was doing really well and then a friend due a week after me had her due date moved up a month. And another friend had hers three weeks early. And then a few days ago someone who was due the day before me had her little boy – five weeks early.
While I’d be surprised if I went early, it IS a possibility and got me thinking about the last minute things I need to take care of now. None of them vital, just things I’d like to have done. One of those was nursery art, as the walls are currently bare. I wanted something fun and have always liked the style of the Anthropologie window displays, where they take one object and use a ton of it to create fun art. So I opted for fish. I had an old canvas that I had previously done a painting on, and later covered up to reuse at another time.
Using a variety of blues and aquas, I painted the canvas and then cut out varying sizes of fish from watercolor paper. I used the glue gun to attach them and tried to bend the paper to make them a little more 3-D. We hung it over the changing table/dresser this week. I think she will like it. So we are getting there, bit by bit. : )
